Robert Vergara

Real name:
Class Year:
Current Position:
RAY Ocean Conservation Fellow
Current Organization:
Natural Resources Defense Council

Born in the Philippine province of Pampanga but raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, Robert is intimately familiar with the unique natural beauty of the California coastline and is driven to preserving it for generations to come. His background in ecological restoration complements his dedication to promoting equitable access to natural spaces for underrepresented groups and to adaptively managing marine ecosystems in the face of threats such as ongoing climate change and ocean-crowding. Throughout his undergraduate career, he worked with various agencies including the Solano Resource Conservation District as a restoration technician and the Water Branch of the California Department of Fish and Wildlife as a scientific aide. As a UC Davis alumnus, Robert graduated with a B.S. in Environmental Science and Management, with an emphasis on Ecology, Biodiversity, & Conservation, and a minor in Landscape Restoration. He is driven towards bridging gaps between local community stakeholders and decision-makers to forge a path that conserves nature while accounting for the needs of people as well.

During his downtime, you can find Rob on a hiking trail, spending quality time with his loved ones, listening to horror-themed audio dramas, or caring for his houseplants and planted aquarium.
