Gustavo Figueroa grew up in New York City, New York and recently graduated from the Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin with Batchelor’s degrees in Biology and Environmental Studies.While at Lawrence, Gustavo’s social justice work revolved around working with the Lawrence Enhancing Diversity in the Sciences (LEDS) as a way of creating a platform for discussions between students and professors. Some of the discussion topics included privilege, power dynamics and racism within the science fields. With regards to his experience in the environmental studies field, Gustavo has previously intern with The Nature Conservancy in several occasions. Last summer he was part of the Global Conservation Campaign Team in Arlington, Virginia, and two summers ago he was part of the Tree Health Monitoring Team in New York City. In these internships, he develop several skills pertaining to working in a team, creating metadata resources and conducting research individually in the field.In his free time, Gustavo enjoys watching foreign classic films as well as intriguing documentaries, keep up with the current music trends, and enjoying a latte the local cafe.
