This past summer, Point Blue Conservation Science' STRAW (Students and Teachers Restoring A Watershed ) piloted a new project for local community college students to become more involved in local conservation efforts. STRAW’s Conservation Educator, Alba Estrada López, will share more information about the inception of the project, lessons learned, and why it matters to engage specifically with community college students as Point Blue increases our justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion (JEDI) efforts.
Alba is Point Blue’s Roger Arliner Young (RAY) Conservation Diversity Fellow and is continuing her second year of her fellowship with the STRAW program. The project aimed to extend STRAW’s student demographic and to reach and serve more socio-economically, racially, and ethnically underrepresented communities in the environmental field.
