Over the course of her fellowship at Ocean Conservancy, Melia engaged with conservation at a stakeholder, subnational, national and international level using science, policy, outreach and storytelling. She supported the coordination and growth of the International Alliance to Combat Ocean Acidification (OA Alliance), acting as a connector and resource. Melia also conducted initial research and preparation for federal efforts to build ocean champions in Congress and gathered stories from community leaders on the ground to highlight the importance of the ocean. Her work helped catalyze the development of strategies to protect coastal communities from the impacts of ocean acidification.
This presentation will highlight Melia’s engagement at various levels of decision making and give an overview of what is on the horizon for those projects.
